'Representative Government', My Ass

How is it representative government if the representatives we elect, vote on new laws they haven't even read or understand?  As Nasty Nancy said of Obamacare, we have to pass it to find out whats in it.  I suspect most of the know-nothing Democrats who voted for it still have not read it and only find out piece-meal like the rest of us, on the news as it does more damage to the health care system and our lives.

The Federal government cranks out thousands of new laws and regulations each year, most of which have no benefit, or are down-right harmful, and many are unconstitutional.  There are so many that no one can keep up with them or know they exist.  But, get on the wrong side of the government and they will find one or more to fine you with, or take your freedom or property away from you.

PTSD

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a phenomenon which has existed since humanity began.  When applied to those who experienced combat it was once referred to as 'shell shock', then 'battle fatigue', and now PTSD.

Bush has his heart in the right place in wanting a change in semantics to remove the word 'disorder' from the term, but as usual with politicians, he can't see the reality of the issue, and as usual it's a political issue which will have no meaningful effect.  He claims PTSD is an injury, not a disorder.  Maybe it's not a 'disorder', but it's also not an 'injury' in the sense it can be objectively observed like a physical injury.  Some who experience the emotional or physical trauma and stress of battle are temporarily or permanently changed, and others are largely unaffected depending on the individuals' mental strength or character, but it's impossible to verify or measure it's existence.

Since 'PTSD' was officially acknowledged as a military disability it has become a massive burden and disruption of available veteran health resources, and probably one of the most abused frauds involving veterans' benefits.

Veterans with massive physical injuries are not being properly cared for or compensated, while some rear echelon clerk who claims PTSD because he or she looked out their office window and saw a body bag being loaded on an aircraft and once heard some nearby mortar fire, is treated the same as a soldier who finally broke after three tours in actual combat and watching his fellow soldiers being killed and never claimed to have PTSD, but was observed to now be unfit for duty.  Unmerited claims bog the system down and prevent or delay the claims of worthy victims.

How to determine if PTSD is the result of valid trauma or a consequence of a pre-existing mental frailty, or simply fraud?  In my opinion, only the later example above should be considered a valid PTSD injury.

Here's a prime example of how the 'system' can become twisted:

Pelosium

Discovery Announcement ~ The densest element in the known Universe has been found!
Pelosium:

A major research institution has just announced the discovery of the densest element yet known to science.  The new element has been named Pelosium.  Pelosium has one neutron, 12 assistant neutrons, 75 deputy neutrons, and 223 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 311.

These particles are held together by dark forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons.

The symbol of Pelosium is PU.

Pelosium's mass actually increases over time, as morons randomly interact with various elements in the atmosphere and become assistant deputy neutrons within the Pelosium molecule, leading to the formation of isodopes.

This characteristic of moron-promotion leads some scientists to believe that Pelosium is formed whenever morons reach a certain quantity in voting concentration.

Taking Some Sick Time

Sorry folks, I'm not feeling good.  Taking a day or........

The Two Americas

From:  Bob Lonsberry:

The Democrats are right, there are two Americas.

The America that works, and the America that doesn’t. The America that contributes, and the America that doesn’t.

It’s not the haves and the have nots, it’s the dos and the don’ts. Some people do their duty as Americans, to obey the law and support themselves and contribute to society, and others don’t.
That’s the divide in America.

It’s not about income inequality, it’s about civic irresponsibility. It’s about a political party that preaches hatred, greed and victimization in order to win elective office. It’s about a political party that loves power more than it loves its country.

That’s not invective, that’s truth.

And it’s about time someone said it.

The politics of envy was on proud display last week as the president said he would pledge the rest of his term to fighting “income inequality.” He notes that some people make more than other people, that some people have higher incomes than others, and he says that’s not just.
It was the rationale of thievery.

The other guy has it, you want it, Obama will take it for you.
Vote Democrat.

It is the electoral philosophy that gave us Detroit. It is the electoral philosophy that is destroying America.

And it conceals a fundamental deviation from American values and common sense. It ends up not being a benefit to the people who support it, but a betrayal. The Democrats have not empowered their followers, they have enslaved them – in a culture of dependence and entitlement, of victimhood and anger instead of ability and hope.

The president’s premise – that you reduce income inequality by debasing the successful – seeks to ignore and cheat the law of choices and consequences. It seeks to deny the successful the consequences of their choices and spare the unsuccessful the consequences of their choices.

Because, by and large, the variability in society is a result of different choices leading to different consequences. Those who choose wisely and responsibility have a far greater likelihood of success, while those who choose foolishly and irresponsibly have a far greater likelihood of failure.

And success and failure can manifest themselves in personal and family income.
You choose to drop out of high school or to skip college and you are apt to have a different outcome than someone who gets a diploma and pushes on with purposeful education. You have your children out of wedlock and life is apt to take one course, you have them in wedlock and life is apt to take another course.

Most often in life our destination is determined by the course we take.

My doctor, for example, makes far more than I do. There is significant income inequality between us. Our lives have had an inequality of outcome. But, our lives also have had an inequality of effort. Whereas my doctor went to college and then gave the flower of his young adulthood to medical school and residency, I got a job in a restaurant. He made a choice, I made a choice. And our choices led us to different outcomes.

His outcome pays a lot better than mine.

Does that mean he cheated and Barack Obama needs to take away his wealth?

No, it means we are both free men.

And in a free society, free choices will lead to different outcomes.

It is not inequality Barack Obama will take away, it is freedom.

The freedom to succeed, and the freedom to fail. And there is no true option for success if there is no true option for failure.

The pursuit of happiness means a whole lot less when you face the punitive hand of government if your pursuit brings you more happiness than the other guy.

Even if the other guy sat on his arse and did nothing.

Even if the other guy made a lifetime’s worth of asinine and shortsighted decisions.

Barack Obama and the Democrats preach equality of outcome as a right, while completely ignoring inequality of effort. The simple Law of the Harvest – as ye sow, so shall ye reap – is sometimes applied as, “The harder you work, the more you get.”

The progressive movement would turn that upside down.

Those who achieve are to be punished as enemies of society and those who fail are to be rewarded as wards of society. Entitlement has replaced effort as the key to upward mobility in American society.

Or at least it has if Barack Obama gets his way.

He seeks a lowest common denominator society in which the government besieges the successful and productive and fosters equality through mediocrity.
He and his party speak of two Americas.

And their grip on power is based on using the votes of one to sap the productivity of the other.
America is not divided by the differences in our outcomes, it is divided by the differences in our efforts. And by the false philosophy that says one man’s success comes about unavoidably as the result of another man’s victimization.

What the president offered was not a solution, but a separatism. He fomented division and strife, he pitted one set of Americans against another.

For his own political benefit.

That’s what progressives offer. Marxist class warfare wrapped up with a bow.

Two Americas, coming closer each day to proving the truth to Lincoln’s maxim that a house divided against itself cannot stand.

Thoughts From a Jaded Mind

I’d just come out of the shop with a roast beef sandwich, large chips, ear of corn & a jumbo sausage. A poor homeless man sat there and said 'I haven't eaten for two days.' I told him, 'I wish I had your will power.'

A fat girl served me in McDonald's at lunchtime. She said 'sorry about the wait'. I said, 'Don't worry, you'll find a way to lose it eventually'.

I walked past a black kid sitting at a bus stop as I went into the bank. When I came out, he looked at me and said 'Any Change?' I said, 'Nope, you're still black'.

Snow in the forecast and the TV weather gal said she was expecting 8 inches tonight. I thought to myself, 'fat chance', with a face like that!

A 10-year old Irish boy stands crying at the side of the road. A man passing by asks 'What's wrong, lad?' The boy says 'Me ma died this morning.' 'Oh bejaysus,' The man says. 'Do you want me to call Father O'Riley for you?' The boy replies, 'No tanks mister, sex is the last ting on my mind at the moment.'

Years ago it was suggested that an apple a day kept the doctor away. But since all the doctors are now Muslim, I've found that a bacon sandwich works best!

Japanese scientists have now created a camera with such a fantastic shutter speed that it is now possible to take a photograph of a woman with her mouth closed.

I hate all this terrorist business. I used to love the days when you could look at an unattended bag on a train or bus and think to yourself. I'm going to take that.'

Man in a hot air balloon is lost over Iowa . He looks down and sees a farmer in the fields and shouts to him, where am I? The farmer looks back up and shouts back. You're in a basket you dumb shit!

I had a big lead in a trivia competition at a local bar until the last question which I got wrong. The question was where do women have the curliest hair? Fiji was the correct answer...hell, how did I know they wanted the name of a country?

How to Overcome the Federal Government's Immigration Incompetence

I got this in an email and I have not idea if it is accurate or not, but if most States adopted these guidelines with a few more added: the Border Patrol could fold it's tents and go keep Muslims from crossing from Canada.
Missouri has no illegals; go figure...shouldn't the other states do the same?
Missouri 's approach to the problem of illegal immigration appears to be more advanced, sophisticated, strict and effective than anything to date in Arizona . Does the White House appreciate what Missouri has done? So, why doesn't Missouri receive attention? Answer: There are no illegals in Missouri to demonstrate.
The "Show Me" state has again shown us how it should be done. There needs to be more publicity and exposure regarding what Missouri has done. Please pass this around.
In 2007, Missouri placed on the ballot a proposed constitutional amendment designating English as the official language of Missouri . In November, 2008, nearly 90% voted in favor! Thus, English became the official language for ALL governmental activity in Missouri . No individual has the right to demand government services in a language OTHER than English.
In 2008, a measure was passed that required theMissouri Highway Patrol and other law enforcement officials to verify the immigration status of any person arrested, and inform federal authorities if the person is found to be in Missouri illegally. Missouri law enforcement officers receive specific training with respect to enforcement of federal immigration laws.
In Missouri , illegal immigrants do NOT have access to taxpayer benefits such as food stamps or health care through Missouri Health NET.

In 2009, a measure was passed that ensures Missouri 's public institutions of higher education do NOT award financial aid to individuals who are illegally in the United States ...
In Missouri all post-secondary institutions of higher education to annually certify to the Missouri Dept. Of Higher Education that they have NOT knowingly awarded financial aid to students who are unlawfully present in the United States .
So, while Arizona has made national news for its new law, it is important to remember, Missouri has been far more proactive in addressing this horrific problem. Missouri has made it clear that illegal immigrants are NOT welcome in the state and they will certainly NOT receive public benefits at the expense of Missouri taxpayers.

MEDICARE/OBAMACARE

I posted on this subject several days ago under the title 'Heads Up For Anyone Over or Approaching Age 65', but that post was directed more to the subject of TRICARE vs. MEDICARE.  TRICARE is military health insurance.

The situation I described of TRICARE vs MEDICARE really applies to anyone who has reached age 65.  The comments I received on the previous post indicates some readers may have gotten confused over the issues relating to TRICARE, or I just did a poor job of explaining it.  I hope the following is better:
Most people have heard or experienced for themselves, the growing problems with MEDICARE.  Health care providers don't like MEDICARE; they actually lose money when treating MEDICARE patients because MEDICARE pays far less for a given medical service than is normal for the medical market.

This year I will reach age 65 so I have become interested in health care insurance, MEDICARE and OBAMACARE issues.

From what I can tell weather you have an employer sponsored insurance plan after retirement or not, you must enroll in MEDICARE Parts A & B (Part D is another matter) when you reach age 65.  If you have a health plan after retirement, when you reach age 65 that plan will require you to enroll in MEDICARE and that plan becomes secondary to MEDICARE or you can purchase a MEDICARE supplemental plan, or you have MEDICARE only; all of which means you must find a health care provider who will file MEDICARE claims for you and any other insurance you have will pay some or all charges not paid by MEDICARE.  MEDICARE will pay 80% of the fees they allow, not necessarily the amount a health care provider normally charges, and your secondary insurance plan pays some or all of the remaining 20% of the MEDICARE approved amount.

It's my understanding that if the Health care provider is under contract with MEDICARE, he cannot charge more than MEDICARE approved fees for a given service and MEDICARE will pay 80% of that amount as I said above.  You are then responsible for the remaining 20% unless you have supplemental insurance will pay that portion.

It's going to get worse;  the 'Affordable Health Care Act' (OBAMACARE) has opened MEDICAID coverage availability to millions more people and I've seen reports that funding for MEDICAID will, at least partially be taken from MEDICARE funds.  I assume this will obviously result in MEDICARE paying less and less until no health care providers will accept a patient under MEDICARE provisions.

If we wind up in such a scenario, where you cannot find a health care provider who will accept you has a MEDICARE patient, and will not file a claim with MEDICARE, your supplemental or secondary insurance won't pay and becomes worthless.

Here's an example of what I'm afraid will happen:  You are enrolled in MEDICARE Parts A & B and have a MEDICARE supplemental policy and receive a medical procedure for which the health care provider charges $10,000.00.  The health care provider is not under contract with MEDICARE and will not agree to the MEDICARE allowable charges.
Either you or the provider file a claim for $10,000.00 to MEDICARE.  Let's say MEDICARE allows $6000.00 for this procedure, so hopefully, they pay $4,800.00, and hopefully, your supplemental policy will pay 20% of the $6000.00 (not the $10,000.00 your provider charged) which is $1,200.00.  That leaves you responsible for $4000.00 if you had a supplemental policy, or $5,200.00 if you did not have such a policy.
How many health care providers are going to trust that you can or will pay the $4000.00 or $5,200.00?  They will want that amount or the full $10,000.00 up front.  What if it's $100,000.00?

They won't need the proverbial 'death panels' in order to get rid of us old folks, they will simply make health care completely unavailable to those over 65 unless they are wealthy.

This is an issue being completely ignored by the media including FOX News.  We keep hearing how bad the Obamacare web site is, the coverage cancellations, costs, etc, but no one is revealing how devastating Obamacare may be to MEDICARE and potentially leave everyone over the age of 65 with no affordable health care whatsoever.

BTW, you may recall AARP was a prominent advocate for enactment of the 'Affordable Health Care Act', and my guess is that they knew the new law would undermine MEDICARE and make their supplemental health plans virtually worthless.

If I'm wrong about any of this, please let me know.

The Great Default

We, as a nation have committed suicide by greed and apathy.  We are a dead nation walking, and we don't even know it and couldn't give a shit less!

The following excerpt from the linked story above relates to my previous post entitled: Heads Up For Anyone Over or Approaching Age 65  "Our kids will handle this effectively. They will elect people to Congress who will vote to stop paying the oldsters and their physicians, the vast majority of whom will be dependent on Medicare payments. I call this “stiff the geezers.” I also call it the Great Default. The surviving generations that ran up the liabilities will bear the brunt of the pain, as well they should."

This "stiff the geezers" portion of the 'Great Default' has already started and will be in place long before our kids start "handling" the situation.

Heads Up For Anyone Over or Approaching Age 65

This year I will reach age 65.  I'm retired Navy and have military health insurance known as TRICARE and I have been very happy with it, but when I reach age 65 TRICARE requires that I enroll in MEDICARE and my TRICARE coverage becomes secondary to MEDICARE.

This specifically applies to military retirees, but may also apply (with different procedures) to anyone on MEDICARE and who has supplemental insurance coverage since all supplemental health plans (including TRICARE) are predicated on the concept that they will cover some portion of medical costs not covered by MEDICARE.  If no claim is filed with MEDICARE, it appears that no payment will be made by the supplemental plan.

Every health plan I know of requires the insured to enroll in MEDICARE parts A & B (Part D is another matter).  Typically, when you reach age 65 and/or retire you become subject to MEDICARE.   If you are covered by an employer plan; when you retire, either your health plan ends and you may purchase a MEDICARE supplemental plan or your employer may sponsor a supplemental plan.  In either case; MEDICARE becomes your primary plan and any other plan (including TRICARE) becomes secondary.

I recently helped an elderly friend who had fallen and broken some ribs.  He was otherwise healthy, takes no regular medication and did not have a primary care physician.  It took three hours of phone calls to finally find a doctor who would accept him as a new patient.  He is on MEDICARE Parts A & B and has a supplemental plan.

MEDICARE payment schedules are already so low now, many health care providers don't want to commit themselves to a MEDICARE contract and those that are already on contract refuse any new MEDICARE patients.

And it's going to get worse;  the 'Affordable Health Care Act' has opened MEDICAID coverage availability to millions more people and funding for MEDICAID will, at least partially be taken from MEDICARE funds.  I assume this will obviously result in MEDICARE paying less and less until no health care providers will accept a patient under MEDICARE provisions.

So that got me to thinking: if it's so hard now to get a health care provider to treat a patient on MEDICARE, what are the implications for me when I must enroll in MEDICARE as my primary insurance.  Will TRICARE as my secondary insurance still pay?

So I sent the following question to TRICARE:  "If MEDICARE becomes so unpopular that few or no health care providers in my area will accept me as a MEDICARE patient will TRICARE FOR LIFE cover my medical treatment without a MEDICARE claim being filed?"

The response from TRICARE was flagged as confidential and I'm not permitted to disclose it, but basically, my general understanding is that if I can't find a health care provider who is under contract with MEDICARE and will file a claim, I could face some huge personal costs and I would assume this probably applies to anyone with a MEDICARE supplement health plan such as those sold by AARP.
